Description

Suomenlinna is a maritime fortress located off the coast of Helsinki, in the Gulf of Finland of Baltic Sea. It’s also a district of Helsinki, with over 800 residents living there. The construction of the fortress started around midway through the 18th century, and it’s an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s one of the most popular sights of Helsinki, and cruise liners departing from Helsinki pass it by just a stone’s throw. The picture was taken from the deck of one of one of those cruise ships in the spring of 2013. The picture shows the outmost stone walls of the fortress, the city of Helsinki in the horizon and a small boat heading to the sea.
