Description
Finnish rye bread with filling, kalakukko, is a traditional delicacy from the Savonia region. It’s registered as an authentic European Union protected food name since 2002. That means you cannot call anything kalakukko, the products that are sold as kalakukko must fill certain characteristics.
The name can be translated as “fish cock”, or fish rooster, even though it has no chicken in it. Finns find the name humorous to translate and Kuopio, city famous for its kalakukko, has annual rock festival called Kuopio RockCock.
