Each region (maakunta) in Finland has a flower or plant chosen to represent it. This symbolizes the regional flora and the nature of the region.
Wood anemone is the county flower of Uusimaa region and it grows in whole country up to South-Lapland. Groves, meadows and forests in Uusimaa region are suitable for it to grow as well as the parks, gardens and ditch banks. It is rare in North Ostrobothnia and Lapland and therefore protected there. The plants bloom in May – June and whole plant is slightly poisonous.
