Description
Nuuksio National Park, established in 1994, is a national park which is located only about 30 km from Helsinki in Espoo, Kirkkonummi and Vihti regions. The area is difficult to access and it was once unsuitable for farming, and is therefore almost uninhabited. The swamp, rock and lake areas of the national park are home to numerous endangered or threatened animal, plant and mushroom species, such as the Siberian flying squirrel, the emblem of the national park. The area has several hiking trails, free-to-use campfire and camping sites, and in addition to these, paid hiker services. Nuuksio is easily accessible from Helsinki by public transport.
The view on this postcard opens up to the Myllypuron Valley covered in mixed forest below from the high viewpoint on the Haukankierros trail. The trees are different shades of green in midsummer, but in autumn, during the autumn colours, the deciduous trees stand out brilliantly from the green conifers.
