Description
Myllykoski is a rapid located in Kitkajoki along Pieni Karhunkierros in Oulanka National Park. The landscape of the Myllykoski area and the mill building itself are one of the most photographed places in Finland. Myllykoski can be easily reached from Basecamp Oulanka, located on Myllykoskentie, if the intention is not to go around the entire hiking route. The almost 12 km route of Pieni Karhunkierros is demanding due to the height differences in the terrain and there are three suspension bridges on the route, which can be an invincible obstacle for some.
Mill building in Myllykoski was built in 1926 and grain was ground there still in 1948. Nowadays, the mill building serves as a day-use hut, and on the yard there is a campfire site and a composting toilet for hikers.
