Description
The cornflower is the regional flower of Päijät-Häme. It is an annual plant with beautiful blue flowers, although pink and white varieties also occur.
It grows 20–80 cm tall and blooms from July to September. Cornflowers thrive in sunny places and can be found in fields, gardens and along roadsides. Once a common weed in Finnish rye fields, where it is known in Finnish as ruiskaunokki or ruiskukka, the cornflower has become less common over time. Its flowers also provide nectar for pollinators.
