Description

Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland, about 200 kilometers long and 100 kilometers wide. It consists of several lakes and its delimitation is not precise but varies according to different counties and data sources. It is the fourth largest lake in Europe in its broadest form. Saimaa covers an area of about 4,300 square kilometers and the coastline is about 14,850 kilometers long, including the islands’ shores.

Lake Saimaa is the main lake in the Vuoksi watershed and Vuoksi river transports water to Ladoga in Russia and from there the Neva continues to flow into the Baltic Sea in the Gulf of Finland. On the shores of Lake Saimaa you will find e.g. the following cities: Lappeenranta, Joensuu, Mikkeli, Imatra, Savonlinna ja Varkaus.

According to the Finnish Environment Institute, Saimaa has 9 different areas. The card photo was taken in the Haukivesi area, Rantasalmi, halfway between Varkaus and Savonlinna. Haukivesi is home to Linnansaari National Park and is a living habitat for the protected Saimaa ringed seal.

This card features a special matte finish, which feels soft and luxurious. The special coating prevents fingerprints and smudges, too, so feel free to touch it!
