Description
Pähkänäkallio, also known as Päähkänäkallio, Päähkänänkallio ja Pähkänänkallio, is famous for the beautiful river landscape opening from the top of the cliff, where the clear-water Kitkajoki meanders through the spruce forest. The river landscape visible from the cliff has been voted the most beautiful in Finland, and thanks to the result, the place is a very popular hiking destination. It is along the about 90 km Karhunkierros hiking trail, but busier hikers can get there more easily from the Pähkänäkalliontie.
The Pähkänäkallio area is not open for hikers year around. Entering in the Pähkänänkallio restricted area is prohibited from 1st of April to 15th of August due to nature conservation reasons. The place is a particularly great autumn destination, because those who hike to the cliff early may be lucky and see how incredibly beautiful it looks when the sun rises over the misty autumn forest.
Minna took the card picture in the fall of 2023 during the camera club’s trip to Kuusamo, when there was some fog but unfortunately no sunshine.
