Description
Kiutaköngäs is the spectacular rapids of the brown-water Oulankajoki. It is located along Karhunkierros, but you can get there via a path starting from the Oulanka Nature Center. Then the distance to rapids is about a kilometer and this route can be traveled all year round.
The rapid consists of a series of falls with a length of 325 m. and a total height of 14 m. The river flows between the red dolomite rock at the back edge and the quartz rock at the front in a seam of rock types. Kiutaköngäs is classified as life-threatening, so you should be careful when wandering the riverside rocks.
Minna has taken the card photo in autumn 2023 during the camera club’s trip to Kuusamo.
